After all the scares and rejected bids by Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United have finally wrapped up the deal, signing Blackburn prospect, Phil Jones in what was a fiercely contested transfer battle between Liverpool, United amongst other top clubs, Manchester United emerged as favourites last week after the versatile defender had completed a medical only for the deal to hit a snag. The tabloids claimed Rovers wanted more cash for their youngster and Liverpool were said to have offered £20million. But the youngster had made his heart
desires known to his former club, telling them he wanted to play for Manchester United and only United. And with United deciding not to increase the offer a saga came about. The question on every ones lips was: Where was the man who had been tipped by many as the future England captain end up?
But the insistence of Jones on moving to Manchester United however made sure the deal was completed and on Monday afternoon, Manchester United issued a statement announcing the capture of the 19 year old star. His current club also issued a statement declaring the departure of the youngster. Figures were not revealed but insiders claim the deal should be worth about £20 million. Now the question is “How will Jones make his mark at United?”
On Twitter, Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, expressed his delight at the capture of the England star: “Welcome to Man Utd, Phil Jones looking forward to playing with you”
Phil Jones also issued a farewell to fans via his twitter page saying: I’d just like to start off by saying that I’ve loved my time at Blackburn and I will always be a huge fan………..
